ECO₂L Energy Controlled Leather
The ECO₂L label (energy-controlled leather) is the world’s first calculation and auditing model for determining the energy efficiency and CO₂ emissions of a tannery. The certificate awarded by the VDL is issued by the independent Forschungsinstitut für Leder- und Kunststoffbahnen gGmbH (FILK) (Research Institute of Leather and Plastic Sheeting). Auditing is conducted on behalf of the FILK by independent, officially appointed auditors.
Eco-certificate of the Leather Working Group
A certificate awarded by the Leather Working Group in three quality levels (gold, silver, bronze) to tanneries that meet the highest standards for environmentally friendly leather production.
Der Blaue Engel (The Blue Angel) for upholstery leather
(low-emission upholstery leather RAL UZ 148)
Der Blaue Engel for low-emission upholstery leather certifies that the leather comes from environmentally friendly production and is free of substances hazardous to health – which includes the quality of room air.
Der Blaue Engel (The Blue Angel) for shoes
(RAL UZ 155)
Der Blaue Engel for shoes identifies footwear and the base materials such as leather from environmentally friendly production, tested for hazardous substances. In addition to environmental and health protection requirements, it includes specifications for high social standards.
